(1946—2023) Joy Wimberley Orton is lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Joy died September 21, 2023 in Georgetown, Texas, at the age of 76.

Carol Joy Wimberley was born on Christmas day, 1946, in Dyess, Arkansas. She grew up in Collierville, Tennessee, with her parents, Charline Nowlin and Harmon Wimberley and sister Pat. Joy attended Collierville High School where she played an active role from Cheerleader to Football Queen.

Joy attended and graduated from the “W,” Mississippi State College for Women. After graduating from college, Joy reigned as Miss Mid South serving as ambassador. Joy began her professional career in early childhood education as Director of a Nursery School in Houston, Texas.

Joy married Sidney Orton in 1975 and moved to Austin, Texas where she remained and became the loving mother of three boys, Jonathan and twins Ross and Ryan. She leaves behind her three sons, Jonathan (Jessie) Orton, Ryan (Anabel) Orton, Ross Orton, former husband, Sidney Orton, grandson, Ronen, sister Pat (David) Mosena, two nieces Lea (Eric) Mosena and Lauren (Phillip) Mosena, and cousins Joanne, Joe, Nan, Don and Lee.

Joy is remembered as a beautiful person, both inside and out. She loved her family and her dogs and spent her life caring for them. A memorial service to celebrate Joy and her life will be held on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024, at 12 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville.
