Michael Tennie (Mike) Hunter, age 81, passed away April 19, 2024, at Seton Trauma Center. He was a proud resident of Georgetown since 1981. He was born in Decatur, Illinois, on February 1, 1943 to Roy and Ferne (Kepler) Hunter. He grew up in Decatur, graduated from MacArthur High School in 1961. He entered the U.S. Army that year and was stationed at the White House until his discharge in 1964. After leaving the service, he went to work for IBM in Springfield, Illinois, where he worked until he was transferred to Austin, Texas, in 1981. He worked for IBM for 37+ years, retiring in 2002 as a project manager.

Mike married his high school sweetheart, Judi Branson, on October 19, 1963, in a ceremony performed by her father at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Decatur, Illinois. It was her father’s first wedding ceremony and she his oldest child, so it was quite an emotional experience. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage and four years of being teenage sweethearts.

He was a man of many talents: master woodworker, builder of remote-control planes, amateur rockhound. He and Judi traveled many miles around the USA in their 1968 blue Corvette. Then son Sean was born in 1976 and after moving to Texas they bought a van and the three of them continued their road trips until Sean left for college in 1995. They spent many days at Boy Scout camps and adventure destinations. He loved gardening and growing all kinds of things at their 2-acre mini farm in Spaulding, Illinois, where they lived until his transfer to Texas.

Mike was the rock of the family, both immediate and extended. He was an extremely loving, passionate person, yet could present the logical side of things. We praise the Lord for sharing him with us for 81 years, yet are broken that he is gone. Left to mourn him are his sweetheart of nearly 65 years, Judi, his son Sean and wife, Jen Seale of Kyle, Texas, sister-in-law Jennifer Branson and nephew Keivan Branson of Eureka, California.

Private graveside service will be held.
